URL alternatives 0 - RealNames.com has launched a service to enable web sites to use 'real
names' instead of URLs. It cross-reference names chosen by subscribers
to web pages. users can enter the name in their browser or search
engine instead of the URL. RealNames has signed an agreement with
Microsoft for the system to be incorporated in IE5. Users can also
download a software patch to enable the names to be used with their
existing browsers. It costs $100 per year to register a name, but
extra charges kick in after 2500 hits/month.
InterQuick 0 - InterQuick is intelligent web browsing software that combines web
acceleration with web content filtering. It takes advantage of idle
Internet connection time and unused bandwidth to preemptively load and
cache web pages that are linked to from the web page a user is
viewing, loading them from the cache when possible. "Unnecessary web
page content" such as as banner advertisements or sound files" can be
automatically removed.
Watchfire: Metabot Pro 2.0 0 - Watchfire, has release a metadata management tool called Metabot Pro 2.0. Used for editing
and updating metatag information, the software uses a familiar spreadsheet-style interface for
generating and managing metadata for website documents, providing users with an
automated test for metatag standards compliance. In addition to standard HTML documents,
Metabot Pro also supports Microsoft Office documents and common graphic images
associated with HTML. The software can belaunched from within FrontPage and an
upcoming free patch release will include integration with Allaire Homesite and Macromedia's
Dreamweaver. Metabot Pro 2.0 can be purchased directly from Watchfire, starting at US$
495.00. A free, 15-day evaluation copy is also available for download.
