THE ELECTRONIC COMMERCE TECHNOLOGY MAILING LISTS ecTech@igec.umbc.edu ecTech-digest@igec.umbc.edu ecTechNews@igec.umbc.edu EcTech@igec.umbc.edu is a mailing list for discussing the concepts, theories and technologies being explored and used for advanced electronic commerce applications. Our intention is to provide a forum where RESEARCHERS and DEVELOPERS can describe their projects, problems and results and engage in discussions with their peers. The list is NOT intended as a medium by which businesses can distribute press releases or product announcements. However, short announcements of genuinely novel commercial products or services are welcome. Please use judgment and restraint. Overgrazing by your marketeers will result in a tragedy of the commons. Similarly, we do NOT want the list to be just another outlet for CFPs for your marginally relevant conference and workshop. Again, restraint and judgment will be appreciated. One of the mechanisms to control self-promoting off-target postings is that only postings from addresses which are also subscribers will be accepted. So, you had better be willing to take what you are dishing out. Some of the technologies relevant to electronic commerce applications include: o Datamining and machine learning o Software agents and bots o Information Retrieval o Internet security o Electronic payments o Web languages and systems o XML and associated markup languages o Web server technology and frameworks o Authentication, authorization and trust management o Auctions and and electronic markets o Negotiation o User modeling and profiling o Intelligent user interfaces o Recommender systems o Systems for defining, manipulating and exploring ontologies o Web-oriented markup languages o Wireless communication networks o Supply chain management and workflow systems but there are many more and the list will change as electronic commerce matures as an application area. ECTECH AND ECTECH-DIGEST. The list is available in to forms -- the regular ECTECH list and the ECTECH-DIGEST list. If you subscribe to the regular ectech list, you will get each message posted to the list immediately. If you subscribe tot he digest, you will get a periodic digest which will contain all of the posted messages since the last digest was sent. Digests will be created and sent whenever a fixed period has expired (e.g., one week) or enough traffic has occurred (e.g., more that 1000 lines or 4000 bytes of content). If you like to read what is being posted but do not regularly participate in ongoing list discussions you may find the digest form more convenient. You can subscribe to both lists if you want. ECTECHNEWS. This list is for people who would like to subscribe to the (approximately) weekly online newsletter devoted to news about electronic commerce technology. See http://igec.umbc.edu/ectech/news/ for past issues. SUBSCRIBING. To join the mailing list send a message to majordomo@igec.umbc.edu with either "subscribe ectech" or "subscribe ectech-digest" or "subscribe ectechnews" in the body of the message. You will receive a message asking you to confirm that you would like to join the appropriate list -- this feature has been added to help prevent forged subscriptions. If you wish to subscribe an address other than your own, such as a local redistribution list, you can send majordomo a command of the form: subscribe ECTECH other-address@your_site.your_net Such requests will not take immediate effect as they will have to be approved by the list administrator. UNSUBSCRIBING. To have yourself removed from the mailing list send a message to majordomo@igec.umbc.edu with "unsubscribe ectech" or "unsubscribe ectech-digest" or "unsubscribe ectechnews" in the body of the message. If you are subscribed with an address other than the one from which you are emailing (e.g., you moved), you'll have to send a command of the following form instead: unsubscribe ECTECH clinton@whitehouse.gov and wait for the administrator to approve the request. If you don't know what address you are subscribed with, you can send the command "who ectech" to see what addresses are subscribed to the ectech list and identify your exact address. POSTING. Messages sent to either ectech@igec.umbc.edu or ectech-digest@igec.umbc.edu by subscribers will be immediately distributed to all of the subscribers to ectech, added to the hypermail archive, and added to the current digest for later distribution to the ectech-digest subscribers. If you post a message and then realize you have said something incredibly stupid and want to keep it from being distributed, you are out of luck. You only hope is disavow the message and claim it to have been forged by an enemy. ARCHIVE. All posted messages are automatically indexed into hypermail archive located at http://igec.umbc.edu/ectech/mail/archive. HELP. This mailing list is managed by majordomo software. To obtain help about our server send a message to majordomo@igec.umbc.edu with the word help in the body of the message. If you have any difficulties, problems, or comments about the administration of this mailing list please mail them to ectech-owner@igec.umbc.edu.
