Background
===========
As Internet based applications and services continue to evolve
very rapidly, new and exciting
opportunities for information integration systems are constantly
created. We are witnessing a
tremendous growth in the number, types, and novelty of
information integration systems, as
well as an increased level of sophistication. IIWAS'99 is a
forum of discussion and
presentation of new ideas and technologies for value adding
services in information integration
and web-based applications and services

Goals
======
The goal of the workshop is to bring together practitioners,
researchers, users and information
providers involved in the development and deployment of
commercial, industrial and practical
applications to exchange ideas, present their recent research and
discuss possible
collaborations.

Topics
=======
The main topics for papers and demonstrations include, but are
not limited to:

    Federated databases and multi-databases
    Modeling the contents of information systems
    Tools for supporting information integration
    Flexible approaches to selecting relevant sources
    Mediated access to heterogeneous information sources
    Mediation systems architecture
    Approaches for efficient and flexible query optimization
    Classification schemes (for mediators, semantic
heterogeneity)
    Semantic, schematic, vocabulary, data heterogeneity
    Practical experience with integration approaches
    Reviews and evaluation of existing integration approaches
    Logic programming for information integration and web
applications
    Internet tools for information and knowledge sharing
    Advanced information search and filtering
    Information extraction
    Information retrieval and knowledge discovery
    E commerce and information brokering on the www
    Information sources in Internet, Intranet

Papers for any of the above topics representing ongoing or
completed work are welcome. All
submitted papers are subject to peer review on the basis of
technical correctness, quality,
relevance, originality, significance, and clarity. Accepted
papers are expected to be
published in the conference proceedings by an international
publisher. Proposals for
tutorials, demos and panel sessions are also invited.

Paper format
============
The length of each paper should not exceed 12 pages. The paper
must be formatted in A4 size
using 10 point Times. (If Times is not available, please use one
of the similar typefaces
widely used in phototypesetting.) Printing area should be 12.2 x
19.3 cm, and the interline
distance should be arranged in such a way that some 42 to 45
lines occur on a full-text page.

Each paper includes the full paper (title, authors, abstract,
text), and in addition a separate
title page with the title, a 300-400 word abstract, a list of
keywords, authors (names,
addresses, email addresses, telephone and fax numbers).

(Electronic) Submission
=======================
Papers and demo descriptions must be submitted by e-mail to the
address of the program chairman
below. Submissions can be either in HTML or Postscript formats.
In alternative, submission can
by done by emailing a URL pointing to an HTML version of the
paper.

Important Dates
================
     Abstract submission deadline 10th October 1999
     Submission deadline: October 20th 1999
     Acceptance notification: November 1st 1999
     Camera ready paper due: November 1st 1999
     Workshop dates: November 15th 1999

Expenses
=========
In general, attendees will be responsible for their own travel
and accommodation expenses.
There will be no registration fee for overseas attendees for this
workshop.Details on the
conference, including conference committee, location,
registration, travel and lodging
information and sponsors, is available on request from the
organizing committee.

Visits and social events
=========================
Sightseeing visits will be arranged for the delegates and guests.
A separate program will be
arranged for companions during the
workshop.
